AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY :
The DSP is responsible to work cooperatively with the
Service & Support Director and other staff in developing, implementing, and evaluating individuals' services and supports. This employee should follow up directly with the
Service & Support Director on any program or personnel issues within the home. She/he should follow up with the Lead Supervisor or Service & Support Director in areas related to household, medical or maintenance needs in the home.
The DSP is responsible to provide direct services and healthful lifestyle supports to each person according to his/her Individualized Service and Support Plan (ISP), including: supervising, teaching, and assisting the individuals in every aspect of his/her life, with the goals of fostering increased independence, choice and empowerment; assisting in maintaining a clean, safe living environment; and assisting in meal preparation and completion of various household tasks. The DSP uses his/her strengths and interests to meet the needs and desires of the person supported. The DSP may spend a portion of his/her scheduled time on additional household duties that are not included in the person's ISP and are not done in direct assistance to supporting the individuals with developmental disabilities.
The DSP is responsible to the Lead Supervisor or Service/Support
Minimum 18 years of age. Valid driver's license in the state of
Wisconsin and a driving record that allows candidates to be covered by agency insurance policy required. Those in driving positions must be willing to use a personal vehicle to provide transportation for individuals, depending on their needs, have a vehicle and personal automobile liability insurance coverage. Prior education and/or experience in residential and/or support services for persons with developmental disabilities preferred.
Must also possess all the following: a sincere desire to provide individualized supports to persons with developmental disabilities; ability to make sound judgments when given guidance and priorities; ability to work as a team member to maintain consistency and quality supports; ability to communicate effectively with other staff members.
DRIVING REQUIREMENT :
Unlimited driving position -- defined as one that requires an employee to drive a motor vehicle as a part of his/her Vista Care work, including vehicles owned or leased by Vista Care, and/or to drive a vehicle in which a person served is transported.
Hourly paid (non-exempt position - eligible for overtime).
Specific benefits within these categories are assigned based on the number of hours regularly worked. A schedule of these benefits is available for review by job applicants. A copy of the Schedule of Benefits is given to employees at the time of their employment. Weekly pay ever Tuesday!
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
1. Physical Requirements – Requires repetitive manual and finger dexterity and eye- hand coordination; requires the ability to use all office equipment; and the ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds using appropriate body mechanics. Must be able to remain awake and alert for the duration of each shift. Must be able to bend, stoop, push, pull, reach, sit, and walk for periods of time. Must be able to utilize proper body mechanics while assisting with the transfer of individuals weighing up to 250 pounds utilizing manual or mechanical lifting devices.
2. Visual, hearing, and communication requirements – Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with all staff, other professionals, and clients. Must be able to give and receive verbal and written instructions in English.
3. Work location – Home-like and office settings with varying degrees of background noise. The possibility of exposure to blood borne pathogens exists if universal precautions are not followed.
May require working under stressful conditions at times and handling emergencies. There will be pressure at times to meet scheduled appointments and deadlines and manage crisis situations.
This position will interact with consumers who are intellectually and developmentally delayed and may be frail or confused and have the potential for verbal or physical aggression.
